Losing touch
I lost touch with an old friend over the last few years. A bit of personal background is in order. We first met because we shared a love of cigars, and we met at social gatherings.
A friendship that started with such promise suffered from physical relocation through the years. Hal and I invited my friend and his wife to dinner, and I felt like we all had a wonderful time.
I maintained contact through the years due to our mutual love of sports. My cigar passion faded after I developed COPD and other health related issues, but since we never saw each other, I didn't let that bother me.
It took me some time before I realizied that the struggle was hopeless. We simply lost touch with each other. I was initiating all the contact, and I grew tired of the effort when there was seldom any response.
I decided to end the struggle and stopped teaching out to him. After several years of never hearing from him, I deleted his contact information because seeing it just brought back unpleasant memories.
