Getting Stronger Every Day

Getting Stronger Every Day

I thought about the preparations for this summer. A lifelong dream of mine is to sit outside, write on my blog, and enjoy a cold drink. My health troubles have really delayed that dream for the last few years, but I started the long road to recovery, and I feel better than I have in a long time. My strength is slowly returning each day, and although, for the time being, I'll have the privilege of writing from my wheelchair because that is the safest way for me to get around.

At first, I was scared, intimidated, and embarrassed to go out in public in a wheelchair. I felt nervous, like everyone was watching my every move. It took me a while to recognize that most people are simply curious; they mean no harm when they look. I must have been the same way in the past.

At any rate, I want to prepare my messenger bag with the things I will need to make my writing dream come true. I want to take my MacBook Air, at the very least, my iPad, with me. A power cord and a power supply, a notebook, a pen, and paper type, to jot down ideas. I have to adjust to traveling with the wheelchair. I still plan to take more photos to include with my blog post. Hal will be with me the entire time. I wouldn't be here on this Earth without him.

The first inspiration was something incredibly ordinary, and I didn't even have to leave the apartment. I had an appointment with my cardiologist on Friday afternoon, so I slept in and rested during the morning.

The trip to the cardiologist was unexpectedly exciting when I entered the wrong address into Google Maps. That added nearly 20 minutes to our trip, but luckily, the cardiologist's office wasn’t busy, and I didn’t have to wait long to be seen. The extended trip gave us a chance to see how much Chesterfield County has grown. There were new construction projects everywhere, and house prices are still climbing. Gas crept over $4 per gallon thanks to Donald Dumbshit, so I was glad to find out that the cardiologist's office is moving much closer to us in the fall. Who knows what the price of gas will be by then!

After a scheduled visit with my cardiologist, I saw the home healthcare nurse in the afternoon. Hal and I didn’t plan to go out because of the cloudy weather and the forecast of rain, in addition to the aforementioned appointments. We spent Saturday inside because the weather turned sharply cold again, and I hate being stuck in a wheelchair outside when it’s cold.

I lost interest in March Madness after Kentucky lost in the second round. I don’t have the energy to invest in watching like I used to. On the bright side, that cleared up my weekends even if we are only staying home. With gas getting more and more expensive every day, staying home is the smart, if not always the most enjoyable, way to spend our time.
